How to Format a Resume for Security
Whether you are seeking a job as a security manager for a major operation or a security guard at the local mall, it is important to format your resume properly. A good resume for a security position will highlight the qualifications of the individual, as well as his or her experience and accomplishments in past positions.

1
Start your resume with complete contact information. List your mailing address and home phone number, as well as any additional contact information you wish to include. You may want to provide your cell phone and work phone numbers if you are frequently away from your home phone.
-
2
Highlight any certifications or special training you have. For instance, if you are trained and certified in the use of firearms or chemical sprays like Mace, this can be very important to the person doing the hiring. Be sure to include the title of the certification you hold, as well as the month and date the certification was earned. Refer to the paper certificate to make sure the dates are accurate.

3
Type information about your security experience, starting with either your current job if you are still employed or your most recent assignment if you are not. Be sure that the dates and job titles you list are completely accurate. Most hiring managers and human resource departments will verify the information listed on a security resume.

4
Detail your educational experience in the next section of the resume. Start with your most recent education, including any firearms training or other certification programs. List any colleges you attended, noting the degrees earned and the date of graduation. End the education section with your high school information, including your course of study and the date you graduated.
-
5
List your references to close the resume. Choose references who can speak to your professional accomplishments as a security professional, and always ask before listing a friend or colleague as a reference.
