Whether throwing horseshoes at a backyard BBQ or playing for stakes among more serious enthusiasts, horseshoe pitching can be fun, as well as highly strategic. Dating back to the second century, horseshoe pitching has evolved over the years, with the rules of the modern game emerging in mid-19th century England. According to the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association of America, the proper way to pitch horseshoes boils down to six fundamental areas: grip, stance, footwork, swing, follow-through and timing.
