Hawaii is a popular destination for people from all over the world. However, due to its remote location, it is often expensive to get to. Round-trip air tickets to Hawaii from the U.S. mainland can easily cost $1,000 or more. The good news is that if you do a little extra searching, you'll probably find a good deal.
Things You'll Need
- Credit card
Get to Los Angeles. Los Angeles is generally the cheapest city to fly to Hawaii from. If you purchase round trip tickets to Hawaii from the closest airport to you, chances are you will stop in Los Angeles anyway on your way to Hawaii. So, book a separate flight to Los Angeles. Other options are San Francisco and Seattle, but Los Angeles is the best option. You can usually fly to Los Angeles from most other cities in the U.S. mainland.
Search for the best rate on a round trip ticket from Los Angeles to Honolulu. Look on travel sites for deals. Compare the rates on all of those sites and find the best deal.
Check with your local travel agency for its best rates. Be flexible on your travel dates; flying a day earlier or later than you planned can sometimes save hundreds of dollars.
Check out travel airline ticket consolidators. Ticket consolidators buy airline tickets in bulk and sell them to consumers at discounted rates to fill seats on airplanes.
Hawaii's whale season is December through April; traveling to Hawaii is generally more expensive during those months, so travel between May and November if possible.
Purchase your tickets from Los Angeles to Honolulu. You can do this online using your credit card, or over the phone through the airline. However, there may be a fee for booking over the phone.
Book your flights from Honolulu to other islands if you are traveling to other islands. Check Hawaiianairlines.com or interislandflights.com for the best rates on inter-island flights.
Book your return flight home from Los Angeles. Be sure the flight leaves after your flight from Honolulu is scheduled to arrive in Los Angeles. Allow at least 90 minutes in between flights.
