1
Open the image file with the hair you want to recolor by opening Photoshop and selecting "File > Open" from the application menu.
-
2
Pick one of the selection tools ("Quick Selection," "Magic Wand," "Magnetic Lasso") or the "Pen Tool" from the Tools Panel at the left of your screen. Make a selection of the hair you want to recolor. Use a small brush size (5 pixels or smaller) if you use the "Quick Selection Tool." Right-click ("Ctrl" + click on a Mac) inside the path and select "Make Selection" if you use the "Pen Tool."

-
3
Click on the "Layers" palette at the right of your screen and select the "Create a new layer" icon, just left of the trash can icon, at the bottom of the palette.
-
4
Select "Edit > Fill" from the application menu. Set the "Use" drop-down menu to "Color" and choose the color you want the hair to be in the color picker dialogue box. Click "OK." You should see a solid block of the color you selected over the area of the hair you selected.
-
5
Return to the "Layers" palette and set the blend mode drop-down menu, at the upper left-hand corner of the palette, to "Color." This will restore the shading and texture of the hair, while leaving the new color intact.
-
6
Select "File > Save As" and create a name and save location for your recolored hair image.
