Daycare centers can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria, which is why it is so important to implement proper sanitary measures when cleaning cots that children use during nap time. A simple bleach solution is an effective tool in cleaning and sanitizing items that come into regular contact with children since the bleach evaporates completely, leaving no residue. Follow some general practices to clean cots at a daycare center and ensure the health and safety of the children in your care.
Step 1
Make a solution of bleach water sanitizer by adding 1 tbs of household bleach to one gallon of cold water. This solution will kill most bacteria and other organisms that may contaminate sleeping cots. Cold water should be used in place of hot, since heat reduces the strength of bleach.

Step 2
Fill a clean empty spray bottle with the bleach water sanitizer.
Step 3
Place cots to be cleaned in a well ventilated area. Open windows and turn on a fan to dissipate harmful fumes.
Step 4
Spray the bleach water sanitizer over the entire surface of an upright cot. Allow the solution to set for one minute.
Step 5
Lift the cot to expose the underside and spray with the bleach solution. Allow to set for one minute.
Step 6
Wipe the cot thoroughly with a clean dry cloth.
Warning
Bleach water sanitizer should be made fresh daily as time and heat will reduce its effectiveness.
Never use sanitizer or other cleaning chemicals while children are present and store them out of reach of children and pets.
