Wiring your Jeep Grand Cherokee for a boat trailer

Adding wiring to your Jeep Grand Cherokee must be done to pull your boat. It is dangerous to tow a trailer without trailer lights. Signals from your Grand Cherokee are sent to the lights on the rear of your boat trailer through wires. Wiring connectors can be purchased at any auto-parts store. Because there are different type of light connectors, install the same connector on your Grand Cherokee as you have on your boat trailer.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the rear cargo door of your Jeep Grand Cherokee.

    • 2

Remove the plastic panel on the driver's side by pulling on the lip of the panel. There are plastic caps holding the panel into position. Avoid breaking these clips. Set the panel aside.

    • 3

Locate the trailer-tow plug behind the trim panel. The plug on the Jeep Grand Cherokee is green.

    • 4

Plug the connector from the purchased trailer harness into the green trailer-tow plug located in the vehicle. Make sure the connection is tight.

    • 5

Replace the plastic panel by aligning the clips into the holes of the panel. Press the panel firmly. Do not force the panel, as it may cause damage to the panel.
