How to Tie a Wired Ribbon
Tying ribbons can sometimes be difficult and seem complicated, especially if those ribbons have wire threaded through the edges. Crafters use wired ribbon in many different ways. Use wired ribbon for wreaths, an accessory on a wrapped package, basket handles or many other different ideas. While tying wired ribbon is a little challenging, there are a few tricks that make the task much easier. Learn the tricks and tie wired ribbon onto whatever craft project you want.
Instructions
-
Regular Bow
-
1
Cut a length of wired ribbon that is 30 inches long (or three times the size of your package or project).
-
2
Wrap the ribbon around whatever project you want, such as a wreath or a package.
-
-
3
Hold one tail of the ribbon as close the to package as you can. Move your other hand up the length of the ribbon to 10 inches.
-
4
Fold the tail of the ribbon to make a 5-inch loop. Repeat with the other tail.
-
5
Put one loop in each hand. Cross the loops to make an "X." Take the loop in the front, fold it behind the back loop, and then insert the loop through the hole at the bottom of the "X."
-
6
Pull both of the loops to make a square knot and bow.
-
7
Arrange the bow so the loops are the size you desire, which depends on the size of the project you are working on.
-
8
Fluff out the wired edges of the ribbon to give them shape.
-
9
Trim the excess ends of the ribbon. Cut them at an angle to prevent the ribbon from unraveling and give them a pretty edge.
Fake-Out Bow
-
10
Cut graduating lengths of wired ribbon to 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14 inches. Fold the lengths of ribbon in half so that the ends are in the middle of the back, giving you a perfect looking front.
-
11
Overlap the ends and use a hot glue gun to hold the ends in place, making loops. Layer the loops with the largest on the bottom and the smallest in the front.
-
12
Cut another length of bow, as long as you desire, to be the tails. Place this at the back of your loop layers.
-
13
Cut a 3-inch length of wired ribbon. Wrap this around the pile of loops. Glue the ends of the 3-inch length at the back of the pile.
-
14
Fluff out the loops and pull the tails down to create a layered bow.

Tips & Warnings
Cut the ribbon several inches longer than you think you need to. This makes it much easier to tie and also gives you enough extra length to adjust your bow.
Use the wire in the edges to make the loops stay where you want them.
