How to Find the Birth of Your Deceased Father
Birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates are matters of public record. In any state, you can obtain a copy of any of these records by contacting your Vital Records Department. People use Vital Records to obtain certified copies of documents for a variety of reasons, one of which is to trace family lineage and history.

Visit the Vital Records website (see Resources).

Click on the "Birth Certificate" link.

Select the state in which your deceased father was born.

Click on the state's vital records link.

Scroll down to your choices. Locate the birth certificates choice and click on "Order Online."

Click on "Birth" and click continue.

Enter the information requested in the appropriate boxes and click "Continue."

Enter your name, address and payment information and click "Continue."

Confirm your order and click "Submit." Your copy of the birth certificate will be mailed to you.

Tips & Warnings
To search for your father's birth record, you must know the date of birth and full name of your father, as well as the state where he was born.
