How to Travel to Honduras for US Residents
Spanish-speaking Honduras is nestled near the heart of Central America with a long stretch of Caribbean coast. Expect to find white sand beaches and inquisitive howler monkeys when you arrive. According to Lonely Planet, Honduras receives about 1 million tourists per year, some of them arriving on cruise ships. The easy going people of Honduras are happy to point Americans in the direction of the superb diving and snorkeling on offer.

A valid U.S. passport is required to enter Honduras Make sure your U.S. passport is up to date and valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Honduras. Neither a visa or a fee is required to enter for U.S. residents but you must provide evidence of return or onward travel. Don't lose your 90-day tourist card issued by customs. You need it to leave Honduras too. The U.S. Department of State recommends carrying a photocopy your U.S. passport at all times to prove your identity and U.S. citizenship if questioned by local officials.

Fly directly from the U.S. to Honduras Book a flight to Honduras on American, Continental, Delta or TACA. These airlines fly into Honduras from the hubs of Houston, Miami and Atlanta. Flights arrive and depart from Honduras' three international airports: San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa and Roatan. If you plan on diving, you may want to fly directly from the U.S. to the island of Roatan.

Eating out in Honduras is less expensive than in the U.S. Meals run under $10 per person. Cheaper eats can be found at street vendors or the grocery store. Travel around by bus if you're looking for a bargain, but taxis are also safe and affordable.
