How to Cover a Lamp Cord
Covering a lamp cord can add a custom look to your living area. Lamp cord covers hide wires that are too long or unattractive. Fabric covers can be made out of leftover upholstery fabric, a coordinating color or seasonal fabric. Vintage fabric scraps can make one-of-a-kind covers that add interest and style to your home. Create several for different rooms, or make covers to give as gifts. Things You'll Need
- Fabric
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
- Iron
- Double-sided fusible tape, 1/2-inch wide
- Self-adhesive hook and loop fastener

Place your cord cover fabric flat on your work surface. Measure out a rectangle shape 7 inches wide by 9 feet long.

Cut out the rectangle shape. Place your rectangle shape right side down on your work surface.

Fold over each end of the fabric width 1/2 inch. Iron the folds flat.

Cut a section of fusible tape the length of the folded fabric.

Place the fusible tape inside the length of each fold. Iron the fabric fold to adhere the tape to the fabric.

Fold over 1/2 inch along each side of the fabric length. Iron the fold on each side flat.

Cut a section of fusible tape the length of the folded fabric.

Place the fusible tape inside the length of each fold. Iron the fabric fold to adhere the tape to the fabric.

Place your fabric wrong side down on your work surface.

Attach the self-adhesive hook fastener to one side of the long edge of your lamp cord cover. Attach the self-adhesive loop fastener to the opposite long edge of your lamp cord cover.

Wrap your lamp cord cover around the lamp cord, starting at the top of the lamp cord. Press the hook and loop fastener together, matching the top of the fabric ends.

Slide the attached fabric up the cord as you press the hook and loop fastener together.

Adjust the fabric as you work, evening out and smoothing the gathered fabric around your lamp cord.

Tips & Warnings
Double-sided tape or cool-melt glue can be used as a closure option for your lamp cord cover.
Avoid touching fusible tape directly with your hot iron. It can melt and stick to the surface of your iron.
