"Non-Italian citizens who have a job offer in Italy or wish to work in Italy, either permanently or temporarily, must be provided with a work permit obtained by the prospective employer and must obtain a work visa from the Italian Consular authorities before coming to Italy," according to the United States Diplomatic Mission to Italy Web site. To apply for a working permit, you must submit a work permit along with a valid Italian visa.

      Apply for clearance. Your employer is required to apply for clearance from the provincial employment office in the projected city of employment. Your employer must submit proof that you are eligible to work at the company.

      Gain clearance. Your employer is required to obtain a work permit with the approval from the regional and central authorities.

      Contact your employer. Get your work permit via mail and visit an Italian consular office in the United States. Check the Italian Destination Weddings Web site to find the closest Italian Consulate Office near you. Bring your valid Italian visa and work permit to the consular office to obtain your entry visa.

      Arrive in Italy. Obtain your working permit from the central police office or Questura.
