How to Convert Human to Dog Years

Unfortunately, dogs have shorter life spans than humans.

People often talk about the connection between the ages of dogs and humans. Dogs age much more quickly than people, leading humans to want to keep track of how old their dogs are relative to a normal human life span. Converting human years to dog years gives a rough estimate of your dog's age relative to a human.

Instructions

1. Write down the number of human years you want to convert to dog years. For example, imagine you want to convert 42 human years to dog years.

2. Divide the number of human years you want to convert by seven. In the example, you would divide 42 by 7.

3. Change the units of the result of Step 2 from human years to dog years. In the example, your result would be six dog years.

Tips & Warnings

• This is a very rough estimate. Some believe that, for the first two years, a dog year is equal to 10.5 human years and after that, each dog year would equal four human years. Individual dog breeds age at different rates.
