How to Change Clothes

How to Change Clothes thumbnail
Outerwear can be worn for weeks without changing or washing.

Changing clothes on a regular basis is a matter of good fashion sense and good hygiene. Clothing that comes in contact with skin is continuously deposited with body oils and skin cells. As these materials accumulate in the article of clothing over time they can lead to foul odors and even mold. Wearing clothes that have a dingy or stained appearance has never been in style. Change your clothes often so they are fresh and ready for their next use. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Remove undergarments at least once per day and replace them with a fresh, clean set after you wash your body. Underwear, socks, and undershirts are worn over areas that have the most heat, moisture, and odors.

    • 2

Change shirts once per day and examine them to see if they need to be cleaned before they are worn again. Shirts that are protected by an undershirt can often be hung up or folded and warn a second time in a few days. Avoid wearing the same shirt on consecutive days, even if it smells all right and appears clean; the break will give the shirt time to air out.

    • 3

Switch to a new pair of pants at least every two or three days, or right away if you spill something on them. The denim material in jeans is especially rugged and some pairs may last as long as a week before they begin to smell bad or show dirt. Freshly cleaned jeans usually fit tighter and less comfortably than a pair that has been warn for a day. Pants fall apart faster if they are washed more often.

    • 4

Put on a different pair of shoes or other footwear about halfway through the day, if possible, to avoid foot pain and fungus. Changing shoes at least once per day allows the used pair to cool and dry out while giving your feet a new dry environment. People with athlete's foot are commonly told to change shoes and socks multiple times per day for this reason. Bring a change of shoes and socks if you are going to be away from the house all day.

    • 5

Take off outerwear to wash it only when you are able to see or smell that it has been soiled. Coats, hats, gloves, and scarfs will stay clean for several weeks if you are able to avoid food spills and other messes. Read the garment labels carefully, as some outerwear requires dry cleaning to avoid damage.

Tips & Warnings

  • Choose clothes that set the tone for the activities you plan to keep your mind focused. Bright color choices can brighten a mood. Change into workout clothes for the gym, a nice suit for an interview, then something comfortable to relax on the couch.

  • Clothes can get damaged when they are removed or put on carelessly. Take your time to avoid tearing or stretching garments when you change.

  • Use discretion when choosing locations to change clothes. Even the basic act of taking off shoes or socks may be deemed as offensive by some people.
