How to Fix a Windows MBR Recovery CD in Vista

The Master Boot Record (MBR), is the location of your hard drive that contains the drive structure. Repairing the MBR is necessary after it has been damaged through viruses or partial hardware failure. This is accomplished by using your Vista CD's recovery features to rewrite the MBR information contained on the disk, a process that can be done in minutes.

• Windows Vista DVD

Instructions

1. Insert the Vista DVD into the computer.

2. Restart the computer. Press any key when prompted to boot from CD.

3. Select your language, currency and keyboard settings. Click "Repair your computer."

4. Highlight the drive containing Vista and press "Next."

5. Click "Command Prompt," type "Bootrec.exe," press "Enter," type /fixmbr," and press "Enter."
