How to Block Bloggers

How to Block Bloggers thumbnail
Stop putting up with hateful, mean comments from other bloggers.

The comments section of a blog is a popular way to interact with other bloggers in your niche. Although commenting is an effective networking tool, some bloggers take this interaction too far. Rather than putting up with negative and hateful comments from other bloggers, you can block certain bloggers that cause trouble. Whether you have a WordPress.com blog or a self-hosted WordPress.org blog, you can stop hateful bloggers from ever commenting on your posts again. This option is built into WordPress without the use of added plugins.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to your WordPress blog account. Click the "Comments" tab on the left-hand side of the screen. Locate the comments from the blogger you want to block.

    • 2

Write down the IP address for the blogger. This is a series of numbers and dots listed in the author column under the name and email address.

    • 3

Click the "Discussion" link under the "Settings" tab in the sidebar on the left-hand side of the screen. Scroll down to the "Comment Blacklist" text box.

    • 4

Type in the IP address that you found for the blogger you want to block. If you recorded multiple IP addresses, add each string of numbers on a new line. Click the "Save Changes" button when you're done. These bloggers can no longer comment on your posts.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also ban blog comments that use certain words and phrases using the "Comment Blacklist". Be careful adding these words as WordPress will delete any comments that might that phrase. Banning IP addresses is the most efficient way to block bloggers.
