Autocad 2007 Rendering Tutorial
AutoCAD 2007 is a program for designing buildings and other structures. Autodesk released its first version in 1982, when few other CAD programs existed for the PC. Features that Autodesk added to AutoCAD 2007 include the ability to create objects with a drag-and-drop mouse operation. An existing feature of AutoCAD 2007 is its renderer, a tool that produces shaded 2D images of the 3D objects you create. Among the renderer's options is one for selecting different resolutions and rendering qualities. By choosing a lower quality render, you can speed your work flow.
Instructions

-
1
Open AutoCAD and create an object to render: Enter "box" at the command prompt. Then click and drag in the drawing window to define the box's base.
-
2
Click again to finish the base and begin defining the box's height. You won't be able to see the changing height in the current viewpoint. But you will see the box's height when you change to a 3D view in the next step.
-
-
3
Enter "Orbit" at the command prompt. This command lets you rotate around an object to inspect it. Click and drag anywhere in the window to rotate around the box. Right-click and select "Exit" to exit orbit mode.
-
4
Render the box in different rendering styles: Notice that you can see all of the box's edges, including the ones behind the box. This is called a wireframe visual style. To render a more realistic box image that hides the back edges, start with the following instruction: Enter "-visualstyles" at the command prompt.
-
5
Select "setCurrent" from the pop-up menu. Then, select "Conceptual." Notice that the box's back edges are now hidden.
(The "Conceptual" viewpoint applies a simple shading scheme to models to make it easy to discern the models' three dimensionality.)
-
6
Apply a different rendering style: Repeat step 4 and select "setCurrent" to re-display the rendering options. Then choose "Realistic." Notice that the box now appears black. This color represents a surface with no materials (e.g. wood, concrete) in drafting mode.
-
7
Create a more realistic rendering of the box: Enter "Render" at the command prompt. AutoCAD will draw, chunk by chunk, a shaded image of the box. ("Chunk" refers to a group of pixels. It's not an AutoCAD term.)
-
8
Change the rendering speed and quality: Enter "RenderPresets" at the command prompt. Then select "Low" from the list of rendering styles that appears. Enter "Render" at the command prompt again. Notice that the box is drawn more quickly, and with lower quality, than the previous render.
