How to Refinish Hardwood Floors With Minwax
Hardwood floors are a beautiful and highly desired feature in any home. But with regular wear and tear, hardwood floors can take on a dull and worn appearance. Things You'll Need
- Pry bar
- Trash bags
- Duct tape
- Broom
- Vacuum
- Minwax
- Drum sander
- Hand sander
- 120-grit sandpaper
- Cloths

Prepare the area for refinishing. Remove any furniture and rugs and wall hangings from the area. Cover light fixtures with a trash bag and duct tape. Tape over electrical outlets. Pry off moulding from any walls in the area with a pry bar.

Clean the area to be refinished. Sweep and vacuum the area clean of dust and debris.

Sand the hardwood floors with the drum sander and 120-grit sandpaper. Work slowly to ensure you don't gouge the wood and remove too much material. Vacuum the hardwood floors clean of sawdust after the floor has been sanded.

Sand any areas of the hardwood floor that the drum sander did not reach with the hand sander and 120-grit sandpaper. Vacuum the hardwood floor clean of sawdust.

Wipe on the hardwood floor the first coat of Minwax with a clean cloth. Wipe in long, even strokes and wipe off any excess with another cloth. Apply more coats of Minwax after the first coat has dried if you desire a darker finish.

Tips & Warnings
Start with the drum sander tilted upward and slowly lower it to the hardwood floor to achieve more control while sanding.
Wear nose, mouth and eye protection while sanding.
