DIY Cupcake Tree
Cupcakes are a festive addition to any party or celebration. Their miniature nature allows even the most health-conscious people to indulge ever so slightly, and their structure invites a range of decorating styles: from icing to sprinkles to candy flowers. When it comes to displaying cupcakes on a dining room table or refreshment stand, you can just lay them out on a tray. However, for a more striking effect, create a cupcake tree: a three-tiered structure that showcases your cupcakes.
Things You'll Need
- Large pieces of cardboard
- Pencil
- Craft knife
- 4 pot lids of decreasing size
- 2 yards contact paper
- 3 to 4 yards ribbon, trim, lace or ricrack

1
Place each pot lid on a separate piece of cardboard. Trace each lid with your pencil. Cut out the circles carefully with your craft knife.
-
2
Place a sheet of contact paper over each cardboard circle. Trim to fit by running your craft knife along the circle's perimeter.
-
-
3
Cut a piece of ribbon to fit the circumference of each circle. Apply a light coating of hot glue to the perimeter of each circle, on the edge. Quickly press the appropriate length of ribbon for each circle down on the hot glue, making a ribbon border.
-
4
Cover the sides of each can with contact paper. Trim the edges with your craft knife as necessary.
-
5
Lay your largest circle in front of you and hot glue a can to the middle of it. Add a small amount of hot glue to the top of this can and place the next smallest circle on top of it. Hot glue a can to the middle of this circle.
-
6
Repeat this process until the smallest circle tops the cupcake tree. Allow it to dry before using.
