How to Use Vinegar to Wash Purple Clothing

Purple clothes can be washed with vinegar.

Purple clothing and other bright-colored garments are always brightest when just purchased. Over time, the bright colors in clothing begin to fade because of direct sunlight exposure and improper washing. Washing bright-colored clothes with other bright-colored clothes of different colors can mix up the dyes and cause each garment to fade. Purple and other bright-colored clothing can be washed in vinegar to prevent the dyes from washing out of the fabric and to keep the colors vibrant.

Things You'll Need

• 1 cup white vinegar
• Washing machine
• Color-safe detergent
• Dryer
• Dryer sheet (optional)

Instructions

1. Pour 1 cup of white vinegar into a washing machine. Add in the recommended amount of color-safe detergent appropriate for the load.

2. Wash the purple garment in the wash machine on the cold-water setting. If the garment is barely dirty, wash it on a short washing cycle to reduce the amount of time the garment will be wet.

3. Dry the purple garment in a dryer on the tumble dry setting. The tumble dry setting will help prevent the garment from fading, keeping the color bright.

Tips & Warnings

• A dryer sheet can be added in the dryer to remove the vinegar odor.
