How to Make Homemade Toy Guns
Kids can be naturally drawn to play soldiers and knights. Although real guns are dangerous and should not be used by children, you can create a handmade rubber band gun that can be used during play. These rubber band guns can be created with simple materials that can typically be found around the house, such as rubber bands and clothespins.
Things You'll Need
- Wood, 8-by-1-inch
- Hand saw
- Spring-hinge clothespin
- Nail
- Hammer
- Protractor
- Rubber bands

1
Saw one end of a piece of 8-by-1-inch wood at a 45-degree angle. Place a protractor against the wood to make sure it measures 45 degrees.
-
2
Take apart the clothespin, and keep only one piece of the wood. You can discard the other parts of the clothespin or keep them to create more rubber band guns.
-
-
3
Place the piece from the clothespin against the 45 degree angle on the piece of wood, and adjust it so the clothespin sticks up about 1 inch from the wood.
-
4
Hold the clothespin against the wood, and nail it in place using a small nail and a hammer. If you have trouble holding the wood while hammering, you can have a friend help you, or you can place the wood in a vice.
-
5
Hold the end of the wood in your hand, with the clothespin end facing away from you. This will allow the rubber band to be stretched at a distance that will make it fly far.
-
6
Loop a rubber band around the clothespin end, stretch it back, and release it to shoot the homemade rubber band gun.
