How to Clean Colored Tile Grout

Colored grout adds a unique touch to ceramic tile in the shower, bathroom, kitchen or floor. Grout colors range from ivory to jet black. Whether premixed or stained, colored grout requires special care. Even when sealed, it has a tendency to fade with harsh cleaners such as bleach and abrasives. Use a gentle combination of household items like baking soda and vinegar to clean and maintain the colored grout between your tiles.

Things You'll Need

• Small bucket or container
• 3/4 cup baking soda
• 1/4 cup water
• Spoon
• Spray bottle
• 1/2 cup white vinegar
• Toothbrush
• Cloths
• Mop (optional)

Instructions

1. Mix 3/4 cup baking soda and 1/4 cup water in a container. Stir it with a spoon to make a paste.

2. Fill a spray bottle with 1/2 cup white vinegar.

3. Apply the baking soda paste to the colored grout using a toothbrush. Make more paste as needed.

4. Spray the colored grout with vinegar and then let the solution sit for 5 to 10 minutes.

5. Scrub the grout with the toothbrush.

6. Rinse the grout with clean water on a cloth, on a damp mop or from a shower head.

7. Dry the grout with a clean cloth.
