How to Create an OpenSUSE 11.1 Web Server
Choosing an operating system for your web server can be a daunting task, as there are a number of options, ranging from Windows Server to any number of UNIX-based server operating systems, including Mac and all versions of Linux. Users new to server administration should consider openSUSE 11.1, as it is easy to set up and maintain.

1
Download the openSUSE 11.1 install DVD from the openSUSE website (see Resources). This download could take a while, so it is important that you allow the entire download to finish uninterrupted. Once the download has finished, make a note of where the file is saved; you are going to need to access soon.
-
2
Download and install a program that can burn ISOs. Mac users can use the bundled Disk Utility, and Linux users can take advantage of the free and open-source K3B. Windows users are going to have to download a separate program; one program that has proven to be reliable is MagicISO (see Resources).

3
Insert a blank DVD-R and burn the openSUSE ISO file as an ISO; this may seem redundant, but if you do not specifically state that the file is to burned as an ISO, then the file will not burn properly. Luckily, most ISO-burning programs make it easy to specify how the file is to be burned; there is usually a drop-down menu or checkbox that you can click to tell the program to burn the file as an ISO.
-
4
Insert the resulting DVD into your computer's disc drive and restart your computer. Most newer computers will automatically boot to the disc, but on some systems, you may have to hit "F10" or "F12" to manually instruct your system to boot from the DVD.
-
5
Follow the onscreen instructions to select your installation preferences: language, time zone, etc. You will then be asked what desktop environment you would like to install; the options are GNOME, KDE and other. Though you can install a graphical desktop environment on a server, it is usually a bad idea, since it will make your server unnecessarily slow. You should select "Minimal Server Selection" under "Other." You will then be asked to provide a login name and password and how you want your hard drive set up. Naturally, your selections will be contingent on your particular needs. The installation will now finish automatically.
-
6
Install whatever server-side applications you want to have running on your server, since a web server without applications is not very useful. You can install anything you like on your new web server, but Apache is recommended, since it has become something of a standard (see Resources). Please see the particular software's documentation for install details.

I got this from google: howto, streaming, video hosting, opensuse This is how to install openSUSE and Apache, I wouldn't really call it "How To Create an OpenSUSE 11.1 Web Server" as you dont go over any of the specifics, just because you have the software does not make it a server. You should have taged it 'how-to install openSUSE with Apache" and marking this as "Difficulty: Moderately Challenging" really? There is no shortage of howto s on installing Linux, this was a waist of time for both the writer and the reader. Now that I have read this and commented I have waisted 25 minutes of my time and am no closer to having a web media server. This was no help at all.
