How to Make a Brush Holder

How to Make a Brush Holder thumbnail
A good makeup brush is an investment you need to protect.

High quality makeup brushes are expensive but an absolute investment. They'll allow you to apply your eyeshadow, eyeliner, bronzer, blush, and pressed and loose powder so expertly that your face will look as if a professional made it up. With good quality brushes, wrinkles and blemishes will be easier to conceal, and powdered makeup will be less likely to cake in the lines of your face. They'll also last for years. If you're going to travel with your brushes, you must make absolutely sure that they have their own separate holder that protects the integrity of the brushes. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Place the piece of fusible interfacing on top of one piece of fabric. Iron it on medium heat over the piece of fabric.

    • 2

Take another piece of fabric and fold it so that it measures 5 inches by 11 inches. Iron the fold over medium heat. This will be the pocket that you slide your brushes into. Bear in mind that this big pocket will have smaller individual slots for each brush.

    • 3

Mark the individual slots on the piece of fabric that will act as the pocket with a ruler and pencil. Your larger brushes will need two inches and your smaller brushes will need at least one inch.

    • 4

Lay your piece of fabric with the interfacing on it in front of you so that the longer sides are horizontal. Place your folded piece of fabric on top of it at the bottom. The creased side should be on top.

    • 5

Sew the right, left and bottom sides of the pocket onto the larger piece of fabric with a sewing machine. Make vertical seams starting at the marks that you made all the way to the bottom of the fabric.

    • 6

Insert your makeup brushes into their appropriate slots. Check the sizes and spacing. Pull the excess fabric above the brushes' bristles down over the brushes, making a horizontal fold. Iron the crease of the fold flat.

    • 7

Take a 10-inch piece of ribbon and sew one end of it onto the middle of the fold that you just created.

    • 8

Take a large colorful button and sew it onto the the pocket of the brush holder. This button should be 1 1/2 inches from where you sewed the ribbon. By wrapping the ribbon around the button you have a way to keep your brush holder closed.
