How to Sharpen Exacto Blades
Exacto knives are very useful in projects that require small, precise cutting like making scrapbooks or model airplanes. But after extended use, the blade becomes dull. Even though replacement blades are relatively inexpensive, you can sharpen your used blades several times before you'll need to get new ones. Sharpen the blade with a sharpening stone that you can buy at a hardware store or online. If you cannot get a sharpening stone, use a kitchen sharpening steel instead.

1
Lay the blade of the knife against the sharpening stone or sharpening steel at a slight angle, about 25 degrees. If the edge of the blade is laid parallel to the top of the stone or steel, that would be 0 degrees; if it's laid perpendicular to it, or at a right angle, that would be 90 degrees.

2
Stroke the blade down the sharpener several times, in a sweeping arc. Always stroke the blade against the sharpener in the same direction. Do not go back and forth with the blade against the sharpener.

3
Turn the blade over to sharpen the other side of the blade. Again, be sure to hold it at a 25 to 45 degree angle.
-
4
Repeat steps 2 and 3 several times until it's sharp.

Tips & Warnings
Always be careful when handling the blade. Pressing too hard or not holding the knife securely enough while sharpening can cause it to slip, and you could cut yourself.
