How to Make a Gas Airsoft Gun

A homemade gun is often called an “airsoft” gun in deference to the replicas created by the Japanese, who aren’t allowed to have gunpowder-based weapons. You can make a homemade airsoft-type gun that will use compressed air as a gas for firing the projectile. You will need hardware supplies and to rent or buy an air compressor. The gas-powered airsoft-type gun you will make will be more powerful than any spring- or electric-powered DIY (do-it-yourself) weapon that you could make.

Instructions

    • 1

Put a sheet of newspaper on a work surface. Put on the work gloves. Put the five-gallon air compressor on the newspaper with the side where the valve assembly, gauge and hose on the left side facing you.

    • 2

Unscrew the valve assembly, gauge and hose connected to the side of the five-gallon air compressor with the wrench. Separate the valve assembly, gauge and hose from each other, using the wrench.

    • 3

Screw one end of the compressor pipe into the hole in the side of the five-gallon air compressor. Wrap Teflon tape around the pipe where it meets the hole.

    • 4

Hold the T-joint with the open pipe in the middle facing to the left. Screw one end of the T-joint to the free end of the compressor pipe. Wrap Teflon tape around the end of the T-joint where it meets the compressor pipe.

    • 5

Hold the elbow pipe with the hole at the top facing to the right. Screw the bottom of the elbow joint into the top of the T-joint. Wrap Teflon tape around the top of the T-joint where it meets the elbow pipe.

    • 6

Screw one end of the straight pipe into the top end of the elbow pipe. Wrap Teflon tape around the straight pipe where it meets the elbow pipe.

    • 7

Screw the small end of the adapter pipe onto the end of the straight pipe. Wrap Teflon tape around the end of the adapter pipe where it meets the straight pipe.

    • 8

Screw the larger end of the valve pipe into the free end of the adapter pipe. Wrap Teflon tape around the end of the adapter pipe where it meets the larger end of the valve pipe.

    • 9

Screw the free end of the valve pipe into the input socket of the valve assembly. Screw the gauge into the open hole in the T-joint.

    • 10

Empty the soda can in the kitchen sink. Put a drop of dish-washing liquid in the soda can. Wash out the soda can with water from the kitchen sink. Let the soda can dry for at least a day.

    • 11

Stand the soda can on the newspaper. Cut off the bottom rim of the soda can with the metal shears. Discard the bottom of the soda can.

    • 12

Push one end of the PVC pipe three inches into the pop-top opening at the top of the soda can. Apply bonding glue around the pop-top opening to cement the PVC pipe. Let the bonding glue dry for 24 hours.

    • 13

Apply bonding glue to the other end of the PVC pipe. Insert the PVC pipe into the exhaust hole on the valve assembly. Let the bonding glue set for 24 hours.

    • 14

Apply bonding glue liberally around the end of the PVC pipe where it meets the exhaust hole of the valve assembly. Let the bonding glue set for 24 hours. Tighten all of the connections, using the wrench.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wear protective earphones to protect your ears from the sound your airsoft-type gun will make upon firing.

  • Do not aim your airsoft-type gun at a person or anyone’s pet.

  • Do not shoot anything other than foam or styrofoam balls out of your airsoft-type gun for safety reasons

  • Do not over-tighten the valve assembly to the pipe because the plastic valve can break.
