How to Freeze a Row in Excel 2007

Microsoft Excel 2007 is a spreadsheet processing application that comes as a part of the Microsoft Office 2007 suite. This edition of the Office programs introduced a significant change to the user interface. As a result, many users proficient in earlier versions of Excel find themselves lost when it comes to trickier functions, such as copying worksheets or freezing rows. Fortunately, most of the options are still easy to access, you just need to know how to get to them.

Instructions

1. Select the row below the row or group of rows you want to freeze by clicking the row number in the left section of the spreadsheet.

2. Select the "View" option in the main menu area on top of Excel window.

3. Click the arrow on "Freeze Panes" drop-down menu in the "Window" group and select "Freeze Top Row."

Tips & Warnings

• Press "Esc" to get out of cell editing mode before freezing the row.

• You can freeze the top row or group of rows only. If you freeze a row in the middle of the sheet then all of the rows preceding it will also be frozen.

• "Freeze Panes" switches to "Unfreeze Panes" once you freeze a row. Select this option to unfreeze a row.
