How to Get CompTIA Certified

CompTIA is a global company that provides information technology certifications. Through CompTIA you may become certified in areas such as computer repair, network administration, server administration and security. A CompTIA certification may help advance your career opportunities by demonstrating that you are competent in your field. These certifications are frequently accepted in both public and private sector jobs. CompTIA offers numerous educational programs, available on its website, to help you attain a CompTIA certification.

Instructions

1. Select a specific certification you would like to obtain. CompTIA offers the following certifications: A+, PDI+, Linux+, Project+, Security+, Server+ and Network+. If you are unsure of which certification is appropriate for you, or you would like more information about the specific certifications, contact CompTIA to request more information.

2. Prepare for the certification test. CompTIA offers comprehensive training resources on its website. Download the "Exam Objectives" to focus on key areas you need to learn. Review practice questions and exams.

3. Find a training center near you if you feel you need more preparation for the exam. On CompTIA's website, go to the Training Centers area, then fill out your geographical information and which certification you are striving for. View the list of training facilities near you. If there are no training facilities near your location, consider using the "eLearning courses" offered through CompTIA to prepare for the exam.

4. Schedule your exam date. CompTIA exams are given at approved testing centers, offered through Prometric and Pearson VUE. Go to the websites of these companies to locate your nearest testing location and to schedule your exam.

5. Keep your certification current after you have successfully attained it. Not all CompTIA certifications require renewal; contact the company to determine whether you need to renew yours. Certifications that must be renewed will expire after three years. To renew your certification, pass the current exam or successfully complete a continuing education training program offered through CompTIA.
