How to Become a Professional Sports Coach
Becoming a professional sports coach takes years of experience and preparation. You will need to educate yourself as well as work your way up through the coaching ranks in order to achieve your goal. In addition, you will need to establish yourself as a winning coach.

Coach youth sports. Use this level of coaching to learn all you can about the fundamentals of the game. This is particularly true if you have no playing experience yourself and are not familiar with the sport that you have chosen to coach.

Move up to coaching at the high school level. Since high school sports are covered by local newspapers, this level of coaching will gain you more recognition. Continue to learn the game and rules and regulations that are specific to this level of coaching. Often times when you move up from one level of coaching sports to another, there may be some rule changes on how to play the game.

Develop expertise in your field of coaching. A good time to do this is during your high school coaching career. If you are a football coach, attend football coaching camps and workshops regularly in order to educate yourself on every aspect of the game. This will help you to become an expert in your field and allow you to be more thorough in your coaching position. Advance to the collegiate level of coaching. In order to advance to coaching at the college level you will have to have developed a decent track record as a high school coach.

Acquire a winning record at the collegiate level. You will need to establish yourself and build a reputation as a winning coach if you are going to eventually move up to the professional level. This means you will need at least five years with a solid winning record. Your record will prove that your skills as a coach can win games and win them consistently. At this level, depending on what college you coach for, your games may be televised, which will give you maximum exposure as a trusted and winning coach.
