How to Replace the Washer Motor on a 96 Dodge Ram

Changing the washer pump in your Dodge Ram with a new unit is done under the hood in the engine compartment. The washer pump mounts to the rear of the washer reservoir and the assembly sits in the left-front corner of the engine compartment. The washer pump pushes washer fluid from the reservoir through a small rubber hose to the sprayer nozzle at the windshield. A new washer pump is available through the Dodge dealership or from an auto-parts store.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the hood of your Dodge and find the washer reservoir in the engine compartment. The washer pump mounts to the rear of the reservoir. If there is still washer fluid in the reservoir, place a drain pan on the ground under the truck to catch it.

Locate the wiring-harness connector on the top of the washer pump. Depress the tab on the connector and pull the connector straight off the pump. Find the rubber hose that attaches to the nipple on the side of the pump. Pull it off the nipple and set it aside.

Grasp the pump and pull it straight out of the reservoir side. Lift the pump out of the engine compartment.

Install the new pump into the hole in the side of the reservoir, snapping it in so it is secure. Push the small rubber tube onto the washer pump outlet tube then install the wiring-harness connector on the receptacle at the top of the pump.

Refill the washer reservoir with washer fluid, remove the drain pan under the truck and discard the old washer fluid.
