How to Change the Warning Beep on a Mac

Most warning beeps are annoying. How else would they get your attention? Fortunately, you can change, or add, alert sounds (warning beeps) on your Mac.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mac OS 9.0
  1. Step 1

    Select Control Panels from the Apple menu and choose Monitors & Sound.

  2. Step 2

    Click the Alerts icon.

  3. Step 3

    Click one of the six standard Mac alert sounds: Droplet, Indigo, Quack, Simple Beep, Sosumi, or Wild Eep. You'll hear a sample of the sound when you choose it.

  4. Step 4

    If you don't like the standard six choices, click Add to record your own (up to 10 seconds). (See "How to Record an Alert Sound on the Mac" for instructions.)

Tips & Warnings
  • Quick Trick: To hear an alert sound without opening an application, double-click to open your System file, and then double-click on the icon of any sound listed. You'll hear it played.
