Although Verizon Wireless is one of the nations largest providers in cellular service, the company does provide different products in different areas of the country. This includes DSL Internet connections. If you have a DSL connection through Verizon, you need a modem router to connect your computers to the Internet. However, if your DSL modem is not functioning properly, or if you are upgrading your service, you need to obtain a new Verizon DSL modem router.

Step 1

Contact Verizon Wireless's customer service hotline. Although the actual number may vary in your area, you can usually connect to the company's high speed Internet division by dialing 1-888-625-8111.

Step 2

Give the operator your account information, and inform them you need a new router, or if you are upgrading, request a DSL update.

Step 3

Decide if you want a Verizon technician to stop by and install the new DSL modem (the process just consists of switching out the old router and connecting the new router), or pick up the modem yourself. If you live near a Verizon center, you may want to do this, otherwise you are forced to wait several days to obtain your new modem router.

Step 4

Pick up the DSL modem router from the Verizon location given to you over the phone. Upgrading the modem won't cost you extra for the modem (although the service rate goes up). However, if you damaged the modem router you have been using, you may be accessed a fee.

Step 5

Wait for the Verizon technician to stop by and install the new equipment if you decided not to pick up the equipment yourself.
