Crank it up, man! Listening through headphones puts you into your own private Mac audio world - and you won't disturb your neighbors or your office mates.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Locate the sound-out jack on your Mac: It's on the back panel and is indicated by an icon that looks like a loudspeaker.

  2. Step 2

Plug your headphones into that jack.

  3. Step 3

Start a CD or sound file and listen to the music.

Tips & Warnings
  • All Macs come equipped with an internal speaker. If you plug into the sound-out jack, you automatically mute the Mac speaker.
  • If you leave your headphones plugged in, you won't hear your start-up chime or any other system sounds until you unplug.
  • You can plug external speakers into this sound-out jack instead.
  • As with all headphone use, be mindful of the volume.
