How to Get a Free Download of ActiveX

The term ActiveX is most commonly used to refer to Microsoft ActiveX controls that are similar to the Java Applet technology. ActiveX controls are designed to be downloaded to and run on your computer instead of on the web server when viewing a web page that uses the technology. ActiveX controls are designed to help web authors customize websites in order to dynamically deliver content and animation or to collect information from the end-user. ActiveX is designed to run on the Windows operating system through the Internet Explorer web browser and can be downloaded for free.

Instructions

1. Navigate your computer's web browser to the CNET ActiveX download website (see Resources).

2. Double-click the "Download Now" menu option listed next to the "ActiveX Download Control" application on the listing of resources. The other ActiveX applications listed are intended for use by web developers and are not normally used by the average computer user.

3. Choose the "Save File" menu option when prompted by the subsequent dialogue box.

4. Double-click the ActiveX installation file icon after the download to your computer is completed, followed by the "Run" menu option.

5. Select the default menu prompts on the subsequent menu options to complete the ActiveX installation on your computer.

6. Restart the computer to complete the ActiveX installation.
