The Dodge Cummins engine is a six cylinder diesel. The engine has six injectors, which are located underneath the valve cover. The injectors inject the fuel into the cylinder from the fuel line. Changing injectors can be done to increase horsepower or to replace worn out injectors. Many performance companies offer different horsepower rate increases to choose from.

  • Ratchet and socket set
  • 3/4-inch open end wrench

Instructions

    • 1

      Remove all six fuel lines from the cylinder head. Remove the bolts fastening the valve cover and remove the cover.

      Remove the two bolts on each injector hold down. Remove old injector and install the new injector the same way. Tighten down the injector hold down bolts.

    • 3

      Install the valve cover and tighten bolts.

    • 4

      Reinstall each fuel line to the cylinder head and tighten.

    • 5

      Start engine and check for any leaks.

Tips & Warnings

  • The last injector line next to the firewall is difficult to tighten and loosen. A 19mm crowsfoot wrench makes the job much easier.
