How to Clean Dhurrie Rugs
Dhurrie rugs are flat area rugs that sit flush against the flooring, with no lengthy pile as many shag rugs are made of. Since the pile is very short, these rugs do not collect as much dirt and buildup as longer-haired rugs, but still require occasional cleaning to lift loose dirt and food crumbs. When cleaning the rest of the flooring in your home, incorporate a quick rug cleaning routine for the dhurrie area rugs around your home. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Vacuum the dhurrie rug every week to remove dust and crumbs. This is typically all that is required to maintain the appearance of the rug. Make sure to stay away from any border fringe or weaving, as a vacuum can often tear apart the stitching over time.
-
2
Scrub dried residue gently with a soft brush, then vacuum to collect the lifted residue.
-
-
3
Remove liquid spills and stains by blotting area with a paper towel. Do not rub, as this spreads the stain.
-
4
Dampen a paper towel with cold water only, and continue blotting if a dry paper towel does not remove the entire stain.
-
5
Dab a drop of dish soap onto a inconspicuous area of the rug to test for color fading. Blot the area with a damp cloth moistened with cold water, and if no discoloration occurs, repeat the process on the stained area of your dhurrie rug.
-
6
Lift the rug and examine the underlying area of flooring affected by the stain. Clean the floor itself with your regular floor cleaning routine to remove any residue.
