How to Obtain a Marriage License in Carroll County, Virginia

Both parties must gather their valid state or federal identifications and go together to the County Clerk's Office at 605 Pine Street, Hillsville, Va. As of 2010, the office was open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The parties must present themselves to the County Clerk or her representative and complete an application for the marriage license. If both parties are over the age of 18, no additional forms or information are needed. You must pay a fee for the license.

If either party is over the age of 16 but under the age of 18, the minor's mother, father or legal guardian must be present to give consent to the marriage. Anyone under 16 wishing to get married may only do so in the event of a pregnancy or the birth of a child.

There is no waiting period for the license. As long as you arrive in time to complete the paperwork, the license will be issued that day and is good for 60 days. For the marriage to be recorded, the officiant must return both copies of the license to the Clerk of Court within five days after the ceremony.
