How to Install Sims

"The Sims" started a whole new video game franchise for Maxis and Electronic Arts. Followed by "The Sims 2," "The Sims 3" and dozens of expansion packs, "The Sims" is one of the most prolific franchises to enter the video game market. Although not as graphically advanced as its sequels, the original game features many of the same gameplay elements as those to follow. Emphasis falls entirely on life-management. Your character does not kill monsters or save princesses. Instead, he gets a job, builds a house, buys furniture, marries and raises a family.

Things You'll Need

  • Installation CD
  • Acquire an installation CD. You can often find used copies on websites such as Ebay, Amazon or Craigslist.

  • Insert the installation CD into your computer's CD-ROM. A prompt will appear on screen asking whether you want to install the game. Click "Yes."

  • Select your language and click "Next."

  • Insert your product key, which can be found on the installation CD. Click "Next."

  • Choose the directory. Unless you install your games to a particular location, the default directory will suffice. Click "Next."

  • Wait for the installation process to complete. When it's done, you can play "The Sims."
