Brother Sewing Machine Threading Instructions

Brother Sewing Machine Threading Instructions thumbnail
Threading a Brother sewing machine isn't difficult, even if you've misplaced your owner's manual.

Most Brother sewing machine models are threaded the same way. If you've misplaced your manual, some Brother sewing machines include a threading diagram on the inside of the hinged door above the needle. If your model doesn't include threading instructions printed on the machine, it's still possible to get started no matter what your make or model.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the latch behind the needle to raise the presser foot.

    • 2

Rotate the hand wheel on the right side of the machine to lift the needle to its highest position. This will simultaneously lift the needle bar to the top of the machine.

    • 3

Place your thread on the spool holder and unroll about 2 feet of thread. You'll find the spool holder on the upper right surface of the machine; you may need to twist or lift the spool holder into position.

    • 4

Run the thread through the thread guides, starting at the top left and moving down around the thread tension knob in the front, then back up through the needle bar and down through the final guide above the needle. Thread guides look like small metal hooks.

    • 5

Pull the thread a few inches to make sure it moves smoothly through all the guides.

    • 6

Insert the thread through the needle from front to back. Slide 3 or 4 inches of thread through the needle to make sure it won't snag or snap while you're sewing.
