How to Make a King of Hearts Costume

A King of Hearts costume will be a fun addition to any costume party.

The King of Hearts is a popular costume choice for a child that loves Alice in Wonderland. These costumes retail for quite a bit, but this costume can be made quite easily with a few purchased items and things around the house. It also can be adapted into a Queen of Hearts costume.

Things You'll Need

• 2 large pieces of heavy-duty cardboard paper (purchased at a craft or office store)
• Markers
• Playing cards
• Hole punch
• Scissors
• Black ribbon
• Crown
• Black clothing

Instructions

1. Cut the cardboard pieces to size depending on your child's weight and height. The average size for the "cards" is one to two feet wide and two to three feet tall.

2. Copy the king of hearts playing card design onto the cardboard with markers.

3. Punch a hole in each of the top corners of the cards.

4. Thread ribbon through the holes and tie so the ribbon lays over the shoulder blades.

5. Add a crown for the final touch.

Tips & Warnings

• All black clothing will look best under your "cards." A black turtleneck, pants, shoes and socks will complete the outfit. For a Queen of Hearts costume, use the queen playing card design and wear red clothing and a tiara.
