Tutorials on How to Draw Cartoon Animals
Cartoon animals are a good way for a beginner to get into drawing. With cartoon animals, a beginner will have a little more freedom with the overall appearance of his drawing, since cartoon animals don't necessarily need to be realistic. Most cartoon animals can be drawn using very basic shapes as guidelines, making it simple for beginning artists to capture just about any cartoon animal he wants on paper. Drawing cartoon animals is an effective way to introduce yourself to the world of art and the skills necessary to draw more realistic animals later on.

1
Draw a circle on your paper. The size depends upon how big you want your animal to be. This is the basic shape for the cartoon animal you want to draw. With this basic shape, you can make more than one animal.
-
2
Draw two circles inside the bigger circle for eyes. The bigger these two circles, the more cartoonish your animal will look. The wide-eyed expression helps bring out the cartoonish expression. Inside those two circles, color in two dark pencil dots for pupils. Draw a small circle centered between the eyes and just a little below for the nose.

Draw a circle for the mouth. Again, using the circle approach to drawing, you can add a more cartoonish appearance to your animal.

4
Use the basic shape you've drawn with circles and add elements to create a couple of different cartoon animals. Add two curved triangle shapes at the top of the head and sketch three horizontal lines for whiskers on either side of the nose to create a cartoon cat. If you leave off the whiskers and make the lines more circular, you can turn your basic cartoon drawing into a grizzly bear.

5
Shade your animal to bring out more of the features. For a cat, draw the fur on one line at a time, covering all of the facial area with long lines that overlap until the area is colored in. For a bear, draw shorter lines to cover the face, then press harder with your pencil and darken the entire area to make the fur look thicker.

6
Draw a larger circle or even an oval for the body, then draw four small ovals for paws. On each of the ovals, draw three fang-shaped claws, then shade the fur on the body in the same way you did the face. At any time, you can go back and alter the mouth, nose and eyes by changing the shapes you use to create them.
