How to Clean a Schon Wood Floor

Schon wood floors are engineered hardwood floors. They are comprised of thin pieces of wood that are cut from other wood, then glued or laminated together. Schon wood floors are more durable than other laminate flooring, but require extra care to prevent scuffing. Although they are less susceptible to water damage than other laminate flooring, excess water that is left on the flooring can cause the edges of the panels to curl up.

Things You'll Need

• Vacuum
• Dust mop
• Soft rag
• Steel wool pad
• Wax

Instructions

1. 

   Take your shoes off at the door.

   Prevent dirt from coming into contact with Schon flooring. Remove your shoes before entering a room with hardwood flooring. Cover well-trafficked walkways with carpet runners, and use area rugs under dining room and kitchen tables.

2. 

   Use a dust mop daily.

   Run a dust mop over the most well-trafficked areas of your Schon wood flooring regularly. This will remove debris before it has the opportunity to collect. In homes with small children or if you eat in a room with a hardwood floor, use the dust mop every day.

3. 

   Vacuum every week.

   Vacuum weekly. Use the hose attachment to clean the corners of your floor, and under the furniture. Schon wood floors are durable, but take care not to scratch the floor with the vacuum.

4. 

   Use a soft, wet rag to clean your floors.

   Wipe down your Schon hardwood floors with a small amount of water after vacuuming once a month. Fill a clean bucket with warm water and use a soft rag to wipe down your floors.

5. 

   Wax can remove scuffs and scratches.

   Remove persistent scuffs and scratches with steel wool and wax. Apply the wax in the direction of the wood grain, and rub it in gently with the steel wool pad until the color blends with the floor. Wipe off any excess wax, then polish the area with a clean, dry cloth.

• Schon wood flooring typically has a 30-year warranty. Always keep the warranty for your hardwood floors.
