Instructions

    • 1

Correct any moisture problem. Fix leaking water pipes that are causing moisture; also seal cracks around basement windows to prevent rain from coming inside.

    • 2

Use a respirator to avoid breathing mold spores. Exposure to black mold can cause wheezing, nasal stuffiness and eye irritation. Wear non-porous gloves, old protective clothing and protective eyewear.

    • 3

Mix 1 cup of detergent with 1 gallon of hot water. Dip a stiff-bristled brush into the solution.

    • 4

Scrub the surface with the stiff-bristled brush in a circular motion. Dip the stiff-bristled brush into the mixture and repeat the process until the black mold is removed.

    • 5

Mix 1 gallon of water with 1 cup of bleach. Pour mixture into a spray bottle.

    • 6

Spray the surface with bleach solution to rinse the area. Scrub any remaining mold that is left on the surface. Allow to dry.

    • 7

Dispose of cleaning supplies and objects with mold damage. Insert items into plastic bags to prevent mold spores from spreading. Seal the bags and place them outside through your basement window. This will contain the mold spores and prevent them from getting into your home.

Tips & Warnings

  • Open windows while cleaning to provide a well-ventilated area.
