How to Find the Circumfrence of a Circle

The circumference of a circle is the distance around the outside of the circle. Calculating the circumference can be very useful in a variety of home projects. For instance, if you have a round planting bed and need to figure out how much edging you need, by calculating the circumference of the circle you can purchase just the right amount. Calculating the circumference involves using the value pi (3.14) and the diameter of the circle.

Instructions

1. Measure the radius of the circle. The radius of a circle is the distance from the center of the circle to the outer edge.

2. Calculate the diameter of the circle by multiplying the radius by two.

3. Calculate the circumference of the circle. The circumference equals pi (3.14) times the diameter. For example, if the diameter of the circle is 12 inches, you would multiply that number by 3.14 and come up with 37.68 inches.
