How to Get a Visa to Travel to Israel

How to Get a Visa to Travel to Israel thumbnail
Israel's Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth.

Home to the Old City and the Dead Sea, the nation of Israel offers many touristic attractions. Unless you are a citizen from one of the countries not requiring a visa, you must obtain a visa to visit the country. The Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC and its consular offices in San Francisco, Atlanta, Boston, Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Philadelphia process and approve applications for visas. The Israeli embassy and consular offices require applicants to submit their applications in person. Since Israel is a popular destination, apply early for your visa.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the homepage of the Embassy of Israel in Washington, DC and download a Visa Application form. Print the downloaded form.

    • 2

Complete the form by hand, making sure you write your reason for visiting Israel in the "Object of your journey" field provided next to question 13. You must write your name in block letters.

    • 3

Have two color 2-inch-by-2-inch photos taken of you.

    • 4

Get documented proof of sufficient financial resources to cover your trip. This may include a bank statement and an income verification letter from your employer.

    • 5

Buy a round-trip ticket to and back from Israel, or get a confirmed travel itinerary from a travel agent. The Israeli embassy or consular office requires proof of your purchased ticket or travel itinerary.

    • 6

Purchase health insurance for your Israeli trip and then have your provider issue you documented proof of coverage.

    • 7

Get photocopies of your U.S. immigration status. If you are a U.S. citizen, make copies of your passport. If you are not a U.S. citizen, make copies of your valid U.S. visa or permanent resident card.

    • 8

Pay the administrative and mailing fees for your visa, which, as of May 2010, was $21 and $11, respectively. If using a money order, make the payment payable to the "Embassy of Israel" or "Consulate-General of Israel," depending on the consular office that has jurisdiction over your state of residence.

    • 9

Submit your application and supporting materials by visiting the Israeli consular office that has jurisdiction over your area. Upon approval of your application, the Israeli embassy or consular office will mail your visa to you. Expect to have your visa processed within two weeks, if not less.
