      Open the software program Adobe Photoshop. Click on "File" on the top toolbar and choose "New" to create blank work area. Choose the width, height and resolution for your document. Pick a brush by using the "Brush Tool" on the left toolbar.

      Click on the button on the left toolbar and click on one of the squares. Choose between "Set foreground color" or "Set background color." Use the double headed arrow to switch between the two tasks.

      Click on the "Swatches" tab to pick a color for the brush in Photoshop. Use the mouse to choose a color for your brush and click "OK" once you have picked one. Create a customized color by clicking "Custom" and using the color slider to design your color.
