Instructions

    • 1

Spread the sheet of vinyl out completely on the floor while aligning the pattern with the wall. Make sure there is extra vinyl riding the wall at least 2 to 3 inches on all sides.

    • 2

Pull half the vinyl sheet back so that half the floor is exposed. Spread the adhesive on the floor using the trowel. Make sure the floor is completely covered. Replace the vinyl sheet back onto the adhesive covered floor. Repeat the process with the other side of the floor.

    • 3

Push the flooring roller back and forth over the entire surface area of the vinyl floor. This action will remove any air pockets that may have developed and also help to further bond the vinyl to the adhesive.

    • 4

Cut and remove the extra vinyl that is riding up the walls. Press the vinyl down as far as possible and carefully cut the extra inches off with the knife. Only the vinyl that is not part of the new floor should be cut.

    • 5

Caulk the edge of the vinyl floor where it meets the walls, doorways or baseboards. Hold the gun at a 45-degree angle while squeezing the trigger. Slowly move the gun along the edge as the caulk is applied. Smooth out the caulk with a caulk smoother.

    • 6

Apply sealer (also known as vinyl finish) to the vinyl floor. This helps protect the floor from scuffs and marks as a result of regular wear and tear. Dip a large sponge into the container of sealer and apply a thin, even coat to the floor. Leave it for 30 minutes to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • If air pockets appear after rolling, poke the air pocket with a needle and roll the area again to smooth it out.

  • If you are unsure about your accuracy when cutting the vinyl, measure the area to cut and mark it on the vinyl to avoid making a mistake.

  • Use floor protectors if you are going to place very heavy furniture on the floor to avoid tearing the vinyl.
