How to Make Fake Knives

How to Make Fake Knives thumbnail
Make a fake knife from cardboard.

A fake knife can come in handy more often than you might initially think. Halloween, themed parties, stage props and decorations are just a few examples of how a fake knife can be put to use. Fake knives are available for purchase at party supply stores and other venues; however, a very realistic and easy-to-make knife requires only a few very simple supplies, time and a little creativity. Before you know it, you will have a relatively inexpensive fake knife.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a real knife on the cardboard you will be using. Use a large knife, if possible, as bigger is better when it comes to fake prop knives.

    • 2

Trace around the entire knife with a pencil. Carefully outline the shape of the knife onto the cardboard. Go around the knife a second time, or remove the knife and darken the lines, if necessary, so they are easily seen.

    • 3

Cut out the cardboard knife with scissors or a hobby knife. Take your time and follow the outline as closely as possible so you will have a neatly trimmed cut-out.

    • 4

Place the cardboard cut-out knife on the cardboard and trace the handle. Make two outlines of the handles, which will be used as scales for the knife handle. Cut these out with scissors or a hobby knife.

    • 5

Glue one cut-out knife handle scale on each side of the cardboard knife. Use craft glue and allow it to completely dry before continuing.

    • 6

Paint the knife handle brown and the blade silver. Allow the paint to dry, and apply a thin line of white paint along the edge of the knife to give the appearance of a sharpened blade.
