How to Hang Balcony Planters

How to Hang Balcony Planters thumbnail
Hanging planters add beauty to balconies.

Hanging flower planters add a decorative touch to any outdoor area. They are especially useful on balconies where there is often limited floor space. The most space saving types of balcony planters look like rectangular window boxes that hang on the balcony railing. Hanging the flower planters over the balcony railing leaves the floor space available for patio furniture and other uses. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a planter that has the correct type of attachment hardware. The attachment hardware will usually be brackets but may include hooks as well. Choose a planter with a hook or bracket large enough for the top handrail of your railing.

    • 2

Pick up one of the empty planters and turn it to the direction you want it to face. Slide the bracket on to the top of the handrail.

    • 3

Locate the screw on the top of the left bracket. Turn the screw counterclockwise to loosen it, and slide the bracket toward the planter until it is secure against the railing. Turn the screw clockwise to lock the bracket into place. Repeat the process to tighten the right bracket to the railing.

    • 4

Place both hands on the planter and shake it gently to determine if it is secure. The planter will move slightly but should not bang against the railing in case of high winds.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a balcony hanger with hooks, you simply slip it over the railing with no additional installation steps required.

  • Some balcony railing planters have a notch cut out of the bottom that fits over the handrail.

  • You can space the planters at evenly spaced intervals along the balcony, or install them side-by-side so you fill up the entire rail with flowers.
