How to Open a Laptop Lock

Unlock your laptop's lock.

A laptop lock is similar to a bike lock, in that the cabled lock is designed to keep your laptop computer in one place (such as a desk or table). However, if you do not have the key to the lock, you need to find a way to unlock the device, if you want to take the laptop with you. To do so, you may use a few easily accessible tools to unlock your laptop's lock.

Things You'll Need

• Laptop lock
• Toilet paper tube
• Scissors
• Pen
• Tape

Instructions

1. Cut out a small square section of a toilet paper tube, then twist the cut section around a small, circular object, such as a pen. You want to make a small, circular tube with the cut piece.

2. Secure the created tube with a piece of tape.

3. Insert the circular cardboard into the lock (where the key is used) and twist the tube to the right.

4. Continue turning the tube until you hear a slight click. Pull the lock off of the computer and it disconnects, freeing your computer from the lock.
