How to Plant Germinated Grapefruit Seeds
Once a grapefruit seed germinates, you can plant it to grow a grapefruit tree. You can save the seeds from your grapefruit, and germinate them at home with peat moss and a plastic bag. Grapefruit trees will grow from 20 to 50 feet tall, but they do not immediately begin bearing grapefruit. If you take the time and effort to germinate and plant the seeds properly, you will have evergreen grapefruit trees that will give you fresh fruit. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Expose the germinated seeds to an hour of sunlight a day when you notice two leaves growing.
-
2
Increase the germinated seedlings' sunlight exposure. Add an hour a day of sunlight until they tolerate the sun.
-
-
3
Place the germinated grapefruit seeds in individual pots with draining holes. Fill the pots with a well-draining soil, and plant them in the pots by digging a hole the size of the root ball of the germinated grapefruit seedlings. If you planted them in peat pots, you will need to plant them in a hole the size of the peat pot.
-
4
Cover the roots of the seedling or the peat pot with soil.
-
5
Water the grapefruit seedling until you see water running from the bottom of the pot. Keep the potting soil moist and do not allow it to dry out.
-
6
Keep the grapefruit tree in the sunlight eight to 10 hours a day. Continue to water the grapefruit tree when the top 1/4 inch of the soil feels dry. Once the grapefruit seedlings become established, usually after one to two years, you can plant them outdoors.
